Story of the"Day
“LinkedIn is the number one network for writers today.”
That’s what an online writing coach told me.
“Isn’t LinkedIn for finding a boring corporate job, bragging about a promotion, or hiring people?” I said.
“Not since they rolled out creator tools.”
Before, LinkedIn was for finding work or hiring.
Now, it’s for connecting with your ideal clients and followers.
LinkedIn offers tools for creators who want to publish short-form posts, articles, image posts, carousels, audio, and more.
LinkedIn is great for finding clients, growing a personal brand, and building an email list.
(All things online writers care about.)
If you can write, you can crush it on LinkedIn.
It’s much easier to stand out on LinkedIn than on Instagram or, shudder, X.
So…
I’m fixing my mistake this year.
I’m spending 90 minutes a week writing content for LinkedIn.
I don’t use AI, either.
I write my content for the week in bulk. Then, I schedule it for the week with Taplio.
I spend 30 minutes daily engaging with other creators and writers on the platform.
My strategy of publishing and engaging is slowly working.
My reach and engagement are up.
And LinkedIn awarded me a badge for “Top copywriting” voice.
I couldn’t care less about badges from a big tech company…
But it’s a good form of social proof when pitching new clients.
And it’s easy for writers to pitch clients on LinkedIn.
On that…
A writer I’m working with asked me about the basics of LinkedIn.
Here’s a primer:
Post impressions = how many people saw your post
Profile viewers = how many people clicked through to your profile, i.e., potential clients
Hooks = the first 1–2 lines in your post
To build your LinkedIn brand, use this strategy:
- Activate LinkedIn premium
- Pick a niche, e.g., writing, copywriting, personal development, etc.
- Publish 4–5 posts per week, at a rate of one per day
- Create a simple text-based image to go along with your post (use Canva or Tweetpix)
- Spend 30 minutes engaging with bigger accounts in your niche
- Spend 30 minutes at the end of the week reviewing your stats to see what formats and hooks worked.
