How I got paid to write product reviews

Hi Reader,

I worked as a journalist for a cash-strapped local newspaper in my twenties. I needed the work, but I hated writing local news.

I was delighted when the editor asked me to review the new Spiderman movie. I’d get to spend the day in the cinema watching a blockbuster!

“We don’t have time for you to go see it, Bryan,” the editor told me.

“How will I write my review?”

“Do some research online and write it up.”

“But I won’t have watched the movie!”

“No one cares.”

Not a great way to work.

A few years later, I got a freelance writing gig reviewing Xbox games for an Irish entertainment website.

It didn’t pay much, but I got all the latest games, like Call of Duty, for free.

I even went to a few gaming conventions and covered them for the website.

Fast forward to my thirties...

I started a blog about gadgets and reviewed an online course I took. After pressing publish, I didn’t think much about it.

Then, my review ranked in Google, and the course provider invited me to their affiliate program. I got paid for my review once I told readers I was an affiliate.

Getting paid to write product reviews doesn’t always pay well, but you can do it.

I don’t recommend reviewing products or services you haven’t tried (or watched)! These days, I only review products or tools I like and use.

If you want to get started, we published an article that profiles 14 top sites paying reviewers today.

Another platform worth checking out is Writers Work. Writers Work simplifies finding freelance gigs... including reviews.

I’m an affiliate for Writers Work, as it’s affordable.

I reviewed it on my YouTube channel, too.

Write on,

Bryan Collins
